LIFECYCLE CASE STUDY
Three decisions behind the work.
Historical project summary: October 2023
01 · THE CONTEXT
The starting point
The historical project brief described a brand with an established Etsy presence that wanted more control over its customer relationships. The aim was to develop communication beyond dependence on marketplace visibility.
02 · THE WORK
The decisions behind the journey.
Keep the brand recognisable
The work included on-brand email content designed around the customer’s preferences and the brand’s own presentation.
Learn from the customer
The team developed ways to collect information customers chose to share, creating more context for future communication.
Use the relationship over time
Email and SMS formed part of the ongoing customer programme. The historical summary describes sustained activity but does not provide the exact period and definitions needed for a precise growth comparison.
INSIDE THE DECISIONS
Customer information should earn its place in the message.
EUGFashion’s established Etsy presence gave the business marketplace visibility. The email work pursued a different relationship: a direct audience that could recognise the brand and share preferences useful to future communication. A customer answer only adds value when it changes the content, product selection or timing of the next message.
That makes the preference journey a content decision as well as a data-collection task. Start with the question the customer can understand, explain the value of answering it and decide which part of the email will change. Keep a sensible route for subscribers who do not supply the information.
Carry the brand experience across the handover.
The customer should recognise the same business when moving from a marketplace encounter to an owned-channel message. The on-brand content in this project addressed that continuity, while email and SMS supported the later communication programme.
For a similar retailer, test the entry point, first message and product destination together. Review response from customers who shared a preference separately from the wider list before expanding the approach. The historical summary supports the content and customer-information work; it does not provide the dates and measurement definitions required to turn that relationship into a precise growth claim.
03 · THE OUTCOME
What the work delivered.
The supported outcome is a direct-audience content and customer-information programme. This case study does not reproduce store-revenue shares or infer an incremental sales effect from them.
WHAT TO APPLY
Take the lesson into your own programme.
Ask for information you can use to make the next message better. Connect the answer to content or product relevance, and keep the brand experience consistent from the marketplace to the owned channel.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE WORK
What this case study shows.
How can a marketplace-led brand build a direct customer relationship?
EUGFashion’s project combined branded email content with customer information intended to make later messages more relevant. The lesson is to create a useful reason to subscribe and then use that context in the communication. The case documents the approach; it does not establish a measured reduction in marketplace dependence.
What makes email personalisation commercially useful?
Useful personalisation changes the recommendation, explanation, timing or next action based on relevant customer information. Before adding a question or segment, identify the decision it will change. Then compare outcomes with an appropriate baseline; collecting more profile fields or building more branches is not evidence of better performance.
