LIFECYCLE CASE STUDY
Small felt gifts. Thoughtful reasons to return.
Sew Heart Felt’s flow work extended beyond recovery into birthdays, gifting and reviews, with event testing supporting the later launches.

LIFECYCLE CASE STUDY
Three decisions behind the work.
Selected milestones: February–November 2025
01 · THE CONTEXT
The starting point
Gifting changes the customer journey. The buyer, recipient, delivery moment and review request can all require different context, especially when several integrations contribute events.
02 · THE WORK
The decisions behind the journey.
Add occasion-based communication
The birthday flow was confirmed live in February 2025. Seasonal pop-up and checkout SMS refinements were handled alongside it.
Connect gifting and reviews
Giftnote flows were confirmed live on 26 November. Okendo review flows followed on 27 November after dynamic-event testing.
Check purchase recognition
A separate November issue involved a customer receiving a recovery message after purchasing. The team investigated how purchase events and differing email addresses affected exclusions.
INSIDE THE DECISIONS
The buyer and the recipient do not have the same journey.
Sew Heart Felt’s gifting work introduced context beyond the conventional order lifecycle. The buyer needs information about the purchase, while the recipient may receive a gift message at a different moment. Birthday, gifting and review communication therefore serve different purposes and rely on different information.
The February birthday launch and November Giftnote and Okendo milestones show how the programme expanded over time. The review launch followed dynamic-event testing, making the integration part of the delivery rather than a detail assumed to work after creative approval.
Check identity when purchase recognition looks wrong.
A November recovery issue prompted investigation of purchase events and differing email addresses. That is a useful reminder that the same person can appear under different identifiers between signup and checkout. The platform may then fail to connect the purchase to the profile waiting for a reminder.
For a gifting retailer, test buyer and recipient routes separately, including order recognition, delivery context and review timing. Check which integration supplies each event and which profile it updates. The documented launches establish new communication routes; incident checks remain necessary to confirm the customer continues receiving the right message as the surrounding tools change.
03 · THE OUTCOME
What the work delivered.
The records confirm launches for birthday, gifting and review journeys. They also show why event checks remain necessary after launch. This story does not turn those implementation milestones into an unsupported revenue claim.
WHAT TO APPLY
Take the lesson into your own programme.
Test the buyer and recipient paths separately. Before sending recovery or review messages, check which event proves purchase or fulfilment and whether customer identity can change between sign-up and checkout.
Selected milestones: February–November 2025. This case study covers the specific work described. Journey diagrams explain the approach.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE WORK
What this case study shows.
How can gifting brands create relevant reasons to return?
Sew Heart Felt’s work extended into gifting, birthdays and reviews, with event testing supporting later launches. For a gifting brand, the next buying occasion may matter more than a fixed replenishment interval. Use information customers actually share and distinguish buying for oneself from choosing a gift before personalising the follow-up.
What should a retention programme measure beyond email revenue?
Track second-purchase rate at a consistent customer age, time to the next order, product progression and customer lifetime value. Separate new and mature cohorts so a change in acquisition volume does not distort the diagnosis. These are evaluation principles for the next stage of work, not additional results claimed for this project.
